Frederick Topham was a medical orderly with the 1st Canadian Parachute Battalion during the Rhine crossings. On 24 March 1945 Topham rescued a wounded man, was wounded himself, and later rescued three men from a burning carrier. He was awarded the Victoria Cross for his bravery.
