John Osborn served with the Winnipeg Grenadiers and on the night of December 19, 1941, was involved in the battle of Hong Kong. He led a bayonet charge on Mount Butler then threw himself on a Japanese grenade to save his comrades’ lives. He was posthumously awarded the Victoria Cross.
