David Vivian Currie was commanding a squadron of the South Alberta Regiment in August 1944. He took and held St. Lambert-sur-Dives, a village in France, while the enemy repeatedly attacked. Nazi troops trying to escape the Falaise Gap counterattacked but Currie held his ground. He received the Victoria Cross for his gallantry.
