During WWII, Battalion organization was as follows
- one infantry battalion = 38 officers and 812 men
- one rifle company = a company headquarters of 3 officers and 12 men, plus 3 platooons
- one platoon = 1 officer and 36 men
- one support company = one platoon each of mortars, carriers, anti-tank guns and assault pioneers
