Battle of St. Charles

On 25 November 1837, British troops and Papineau’s followers, the Patriotes, encountered one another at the town of St. Denis on the Richelieu River. Lt. Col. F. A. Wetherall, in charge of British troops, was one part of a two edged movement to drive the Patriote forces out of the Richelieu River Valley. Wetherall defeated the rebels and the British gained control of the Richelieu area.
